DSSS vs. FHSS narrowband interference performance issues

ثبت نشده
چکیده

D spread spectrum (DSSS) and frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technologies have different physical mechanisms for rejecting narrowband interference. Because of these physical differences, they perform differently in the presence of the same levels of narrowband interference. This is an important case for successful operation in the ISM bands. After presenting the physical mechanisms by which these spread spectrum methods reject narrowband interferers, measured examples are shown to illustrate DSSS and FHSS interference rejection. Performances of DSSS and FHSS in the presence of a large out-ofband interferer are also measured and compared. Comparisons between the two spread spectrum methods are drawn highlighting the conditions under which they perform identically, and also when one method performs better than the other. The proper choice of direct sequence or frequency hopping as a spread-spectrum technique depends on the actual environment in which the system will be deployed.

Performance comparison of frequency flopping and direct sequence spread spectrum systems in the 2.4 GHz range

The FHSS and DSSS technologies are described as well as different types of spread coding. DSSS systems can provide higher access data rates (up to 11Mbit/s) than FHSS systems (up to 3Mbit/s). More FHSS systems can operate simultaneously in the same area than DSSS systems. DSSS systems have higher interference susceptibility tolerance levels. However, if there is a strong broadband interferer in...

Wireless LANs Title: Effects of Microwave Interference On IEEE 802.11 WLAN Reliability

The influence of microwave oven interference on IEEE802.11 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) performance is a significant factor because they share common spectrum in the 2.400 2.4835 GHz Industry, Science, and Medicine (ISM) band. FCC regulations permit radiated power of up to 1 watt in this band provided spread spectrum techniques are employed. Spread spectrum methods facilitate multiple use...

RIA: An RF Intereference Avoidance Algorithm for Heteregeneous Wireless Networks

Due to the unlicensed nature of 2.4 GHz ISM band, the number of technologies using this band is growing. FCC regulations mandate that these technologies need to implement some form of frequency sharing. Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) and Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) are two popular techniques to share the frequencies within this band. However, devices implementing different ...

BER Performance Analysis of Frequency-Hopping and Direct-Sequencing Spread Spectrum for Cognitive Radio Networks

Cognitive radio is an encouraging technology for future wireless communication networks. Due to the rapid increase in wireless services, the RF spectrum is going through a scarcity problem. This has forced mobile operators to participate in multimillion dollar auctions to reserve some spectrum resources. Cognitive radio tries to solve this scarcity problem by effectively using the unused portio...
